Emotional Affair Or Friendship

In a marriage, what are the limits for friendship with a member of the opposite sex? Who sets these limits? What is the difference between a friendship and an emotional affair? Is an emotional affair wrong? Does an emotional affair help the marriage by letting a partner vent out all emotional frustration, which otherwise he/she would not have done with his/her spouse? Or does it kill the marriage?

What is an emotional affair?

Most of us have friendships. Many of us are very close in some friendships. We share quite a lot in such friendships. But when one develops such a close friendship with one from the opposite sex, it can be termed as an emotional affair. Sharing intimate emotional details with someone of opposite sex is called an emotional affair. This the the common definition. It also includes the clause that you are keeping your partner unaware about the emotional bond you share with someone else.

Does it hurt marriage?

It hurts marriage if after knowing about the details shared, the spouse feels that mutual trust was violated. If the emotional affair becomes strong, it may so happen that one may begin sharing more emotional details with one’s friend than with one’s spouse. That hurts the spouse and may also lead to a break-up.

Why do people have emotional affair?

It is being debated that emotional affair is purely emotional or it is begun because of physical attraction. Does one need a friend of opposite sex to share emotional details? Why not one of your own sex? And why does one feel uncomfortable with one’s spouse about this bond? All pointers go in one direction – an emotional affair may be the way one wants to begin a physical relationship with another outside marriage. Otherwise if one want to have emotional sharing, or to vent out feelings, one can easily consult a psychiatrist and tell all to feel relieved and get advice. Or one can chose a friend of the same sex.

How to avoid an emotional affair?

One who is involved in an emotional affair needs to ask ownself- is this only emotional? Why do I need this person to talk about everything? One must reflect. Talk it out with one’s spouse. Let your head control your heart for a moment and think about the marriage and the bond. This may help in better understanding of the emotional affair and coming out of it.

Just Broken Up - What Happens After

Each painful moment in life renders one helpless at the beginning. A break up can hurt you, no matter how much you try to make yourself believe that it doesn't. A breakup will also make you go through five stages of healing just like losing a loved one. Some cope faster while others remain paralyzed with the pain. These stages of healing are is not a time frame but is a guide to help you reflect on the healing process.

Denial. You'd probably be in a state of shock once you realize you had a breakup. It will keep you thinking what you have done to be in a hurtful situation. Pain is very very difficult to handle at the beginning so you try to numb yourself. You will drown your sorrows with drinking, partying, and dating other people. You'll feel good for a while but the pain will come back to haunt you again.

The stage of denial is normal after a breakup. In a way, you are simply trying to protect yourself from the pain by not accepting the reality right away. This is just a temporary stage that will usher you to experience the other process of healing.

Anger. After the denial comes the realization of truth. You are slowly acknowledging the fact that you have just been jilted. Denial is now replaced with anger.

Anger can make you do things that you will regret later on if it gets out of control. If left bottled up, it can make you even more frustrated at the world. Anger can make you sick if not expressed. Every person express anger differently. Thee are people who scream out in rage. Others use it as a way of creative self-expression or self-improvement. Whatever your case may be, use your anger to accomplish greater things. You can keep yourself busy and productive.

Bargaining. This is perhaps the most pitiful part of the recovery process but is however necessary. Negotiating entails revisiting the past and inventing ways to make your ex come back to you. Regardless of if you think that you do not really wish to get back with your ex, your subconscious tells you that you must contact your ex to return his stuff. It looks paradoxical, but actually, the negotiating period is the bit where plotting plots are lots. You can 'casually ' drop by his fave spot and 'accidentally ' bump into your ex. It may be something that screams desperation"like inventing a scenario which needs your ex's swift attention.

Whatever the case might be try your best to avoid those shaming situations. Surround yourself with friends who will help you move thru the process of healing. Cutting all method of communication with your ex is an important facet of healing. If you find yourself reaching for the telephone, leave your place and do something productive instead.

Depression. Depression is the bit where you are feeling extremely sorry for yourself. This is the time when you may feel most valueless as you don't feel loved. Depression begins when your negotiating for another shot at love isn't heard. But whether you want reconciliation or not, depression will continue to be part of your process of healing.

Folks do stupid things when they are depressed. Too much drinking and boogieing will make you feel much worse in the final analysis. Irrespective of how depressed you may be, avoid doing things that might harm you or your reputation. If you want to remain within your house for a week, so be it. Pour out all your feelings into a journal or release your depression by doing something creative.

Acceptance. Acceptance is the final stage of the process of recovery and the one you've been waiting to happen. Once you've accepted that your relationship has finished, you'll feel at liberty. You'd be surprised at how robust you became after going through all that pain. This is also a good time for you to bring good change into your life.

Once you've moved through the 5 stages of healing, you can look back to your past and say, "I'm a stronger and better person now. I'll handle anything that comes my way." With every struggle that you have got to go through, a reward appears in the end.

Broken Heart Poetry

Broken heart poetry can help you to better cope with feeling of unrequited love. If you love someone who doesn't love you, or if you lost someone whom you love - there isn't a pain as agonizing as that. A broken heart is one of the most common causes of suicide - because many people are simply unable to stand the pain.

So it really is important to find ways to manage the emotional pain you are going through. Reading poems that express your feelings, and even writing them, can both help you to stay strong and not be overwhelmed by the intensity of it all.

Neuroscientists discovered that when we describe feelings with words, we can actually reduce their impact on us. One reason for that is that in order to describe feelings, we need to first recognize them clearly.

And in order to match an emotion with a feeling, you need to categorize and compare those different feelings and words with one another - a task that involves your prefrontal cortex.

There actually have been studies where people where hooked up to fMRIs when they were writing down how they felt. fMRIs are brain imaging machines, that essentially allow scientists to look at the activity that is happening in the brain of a person in real time. And they found that just through writing down feelings, those areas of the brain that are in charge of managing emotions became more active.

When the scientists surveys people who watched an emotionally upsetting movie, they separated them into two groups. One group would write down their feelings, the other wouldn't. Both groups would then be surveyed about their feelings. And the group that wrote down their feelings again were less impacted by the upsetting scenes they saw in the video clips.

That might be one of the reasons why broken heart poetry is so popular. Maybe people instinctively know that it can help them to better cope with the agony, to lessen their pain - and so they like to read it and write it.

It is a great idea to write poems too. But some people have a difficult time to come up with poems. And if that is a case, just reading lots of poetry can help to inspire you, and can give you ideas. Just keep a sheet of paper, or even better, a notebook, handy, and jot down ideas and words that come into your mind.

You will see that the simple exercise of writing broken heart poetry will help you to better cope with unrequited love.

5 Tips for Saving a Broken Relationship

Relationships can be so complicated. And when relationships are broken, they can be so devastating. The reason is that God made us to be in relationships with each other. And we come to depend on those relationships more than anything else. When a relationship comes to an end it makes us feel incomplete and unattached. Our whole lives seem broken and out of control. It you are interested in saving a broken relationship, then here are a few guidelines to follow.

Number One

Never make the other person think that you are ending the relationship. Many people will do this to try to scare the other person into doing what they want them to do. This kind of tactic will only lead to the other person feeling that you will leave them on their own and it makes them feel insecure. Don't do or say anything to make the other person feel that you are about to end the relationship.

Number Two

Always keep the lines of communication open. This is very important. It just might be the most important thing of all. As long as there is communication between the two of you, there is hope. As long as you are talking to each other you can find a way to heal your relationship. When you continue to communicate you are letting the other person know that you respect them and their feelings and are willing to work things out. By continuing to talk to each other you are showing that you care about each other.

Number Three

Understand that relationships take work. Great relationships don't just happen. You have to work at it. The people you know who have great relationships are the ones who have really worked at it. There is no such thing as a relationship without problems. All relationships have bumps along the way but the really great ones are the ones where two people have decided that their love for each other is greater than their differences. Saving a broken relationship can take some work but it is absolutely possible to do it.

Number Four

The other person has a right to feel the way they do. Just because you don't see things the same as the other person doesn't mean that their feelings are not justified. If they feel hurt, there is a reason for that. Maybe the thing that is causing them to feel hurt wouldn't have caused you to be hurt, but that doesn't mean that they should not feel hurt about it. They are not the same as you and that is a good thing. We are all different and we all see things differently.

Number Five

Don't make a mountain out of a mole hill. In other words, don't blow things out of proportion. Don't put too much emphasis on the little things. You will never agree totally on everything. If you are concerned about saving a broken relationship, then focus on the things that really matter, the positive things in your relationship. When you look at all the great things you have together, then the little things lose their importance.
